Summary
· CORE announces official partnership with 10 UCI WorldTour teams in 2024 - an estimated 2/3rds of the professional peloton.
· CORE has issued an additional 150 new sensors this season to official UCI WorldTour riders to help them better understand how their bodies respond to heat and to employ effective cooling strategies.
· Teams that are not officially partnering with CORE are also investing in sensors
· The latest data on thermoregulation points to a potential increase in athletic performance by up to 8%.
Zurich 19th March 2024 - CORE announces official partnerships with 10 UCI WorldTour teams in 2024 and widespread use of the technology across the entire professional UCI WorldTour roster, both men’s and women’s teams.
Until very recently, little was known about the true extent to which heat can impede the physical performance of the world’s fittest athletes. CORE’s body temperature sensor is the most accurate non-invasive wearable for continuous core temperature monitoring available on the market. It provides users with real-time data by measuring core body temperature, skin temperature, heat strain index, and heat strain score. And their work with professional cycling teams is revolutionizing approaches to thermoregulation, and how riders are training and racing - especially in the lead-up to what is predicted to be a scorching Olympic Games Paris 2024 and an increasingly heat-challenged Tour de France.
CORE Partners Officially with 10 UCI WorldTeams in 2024
CORE is the official partner of 10 teams in the professional men’s and women’s world tour peloton. That’s over 230 riders wearing CORE to optimize their training and performance. An additional 2 Pro Tour Teams are also partnering with CORE.
The teams that are officially supported by CORE with the provision of sensors and access to CORE’s in-house performance team in 2024 are:
UCI WorldTour Teams
· BORA - hansgrohe
· Human Powered Health
· Ceratizit
· Soudal-Quickstep (men and women)
· Lidl-Trek (men and women)
· Movistar (men and women)
· Canyon//Sram
UCI ProTour Teams
· Q36.5
· Bingoal
A Race to Stay the Coolest
As a result of CORE’s partnerships with professional teams, vast amounts of data are being collected by its sports scientists. CORE supports its partner teams with the analysis of said data and provides observations to team coaches. The outcomes have been manifold: optimizing rider’s adaptations to adverse heat and managing thermal stress throughout the season, increases in performance in cooler races with adaptation benefits(akin to altitude training), the optimization of kit for performance.
An example of this work in action is how teams are testing the thermoregulation properties of their apparel, optimizing hydration for individual athlete’s needs, and the use of cooling innovations such as ice vests. CORE also provides round-the-clock feedback and recommendations during the racing season to assist in rapid decision-making.
VP and Head of Core, Ross McGraw
“Virtually the entire pro peloton has made CORE a part of their tech stack, not just in hot races, but to monitor core body temp data in all training and competitions. Top riders and teams know that as core body temp increases they lose power. One study revealed a 5% loss of power for every 1* increase in core temp. Another cited a 2.5% increase in hemoglobin mass after heat training. With this level of impact, CORE can often be the difference between a rider being at the top of the podium or off the back.”
Dan Lorang Head Performance Coach at BORA - hansgrohe
"Using CORE to monitor the core body temperatures of the Bora - hansgrohe riders has been a game-changer. The use of CORE sensors has a major influence in developing specific warm-up procedures before races, optimal fluid intake, and in our choice of clothing. We can better understand the differences among the rider's adaptation and reaction to heat conditions and implement key protocols to improve their performance on the bike."
According to Dr Puck Alkemade, CORE “CORE can be used to improve athletic performance in any condition. Through measuring core temperature you can implement personalized cooling strategies and make pacing decisions during training and competition. CORE sensors enable athletes to perform heat training at the right thermal load to optimize heat adaptation and performance in hot conditions. Not only that, but we have reason to believe that heat training can improve endurance performance in cooler conditions - observed through an improvement in VO2 max likely through plasma volume expansion. These scientific observations are changing how athletes are training and racing and it is a really exciting time to be involved in cutting-edge sports performance technology.”
Looking to the future, CORE continues to invest its efforts into improving the usability experience of the CORE app for non-professional athletes who simply want to understand how their body reacts to thermal stress and how to improve their sporting performance. Usability updates will be released in Spring 2024, followed by the launch of new features centered around the display of relevant data, in early summer. The CORE app is available in English, Spanish, French, German and Japanese.

ABOUT CORE
CORE is a division of greenteg AG and provides expertise and technology for thermal management in sports. The CORE sensor is a real-time core body temperature built with the advanced, Swiss-made Calera thermal energy transfer sensor which provides medical-grade accuracy. It is the only wearable solution that allows athletes to continually monitor accurate core body temperature data without the need for an ingested or inserted thermometer.
Zürich based greenteg AG manufactures and supplies thermal energy transfer sensors which are also used across a host of applications beyond sports including medical use, photonics, thermal efficiency measurements in construction, and workplace health and safety.
